  • The Opportunity

    We are currently seeking a Civil Engineer III for our Aerospace and Defense Practice in Merritt Island, Florida.

     

    As an associate in RS&H’s Aerospace and Defense Practice, the qualified candidate will lead specialized design teams, working with Engineers, Architects, Environmental Scientists, and Planners on studies and designs of land development and infrastructure supporting vertical and horizontal launch vehicle related programs and the Department of Defense. Duties will include serving as a discipline lead and/or project manager; performing and overseeing engineering calculations, analyses, development of drawings and specifications, and supporting submittals to permitting agencies.  In addition, the Civil Engineer III will support RS&H’s commitment to Spaceport development.  As an associate working on Spaceport development projects, the qualified candidate will manage project teams and support tasks such as; feasibility and site selection studies, explosive site planning, airspace evaluations, trajectory risk analyses, sonic boom analysis, FAA licensing, and attend public participation meetings.  An understanding of launch and space vehicle systems requirements is a plus and excitement for supporting space exploration is required. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to independently lead a project team and make presentations to clients.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university
    • 4+ years of relevant experience within the civil engineering discipline
    • Professional Engineering license
    • Working knowledge and ability to use AutoCAD or Civil 3D
    • Ability to work as a multi-discipline engineering team to produce constructible contract documents
    • A motivated self-starter that accepts new challenges with an open mind and maintains a great attitude
    • Due to the nature of client projects, US citizenship or permanent legal residency is required 

    Preferred Qualifications:  

    • Environmental Resource Permitting (ERP) experience with the Saint John’s River Water Management District (SJRWMD)
    • Interest and understanding of rocket launch pads and ground support systems
    • Familiarity with of FAA Office of Commercial Space, NASA, US Air Force, Department of Defense, and Eastern-Wester Range Commission regulations and guidelines for launch operations
    • Project management experience
