  • The Opportunity

    We are currently seeking a Transportation Planner – NEPA Lead Engineer for the Transportation-Infrastructure Practice in St. Charles, IL.


    The Transportation Planner – NEPA Lead Engineer is an effective, visionary leader of local, regional, and statewide transportation, land use, environmental, and/or public transit planning projects supported in Illinois. The position requires strong technical and managerial experience and will supervise associates and serve as Project Manager for significant planning assignments including the preparation of NEPA documents for Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Categorical Exclusions (CEs). Work activities include preparing environmental documents, public involvement, coordinating with government agencies, socioeconomic analysis, land use analysis, Section 4(f) statements, corridor studies, and other document preparation tasks. This position may lead planning-oriented business development pursuits with the support of other senior management. This is an Excellent opportunity to build upon and grow a state-of-the-practice planning group.


    To qualify, you must possess the following:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
    • 6+ years of experience in the field of planning or NEPA related work
    • Professional Engineering (PE) certification required
    • Experience working with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and/or Illinois Tollway
    • Experience with Microstation, Bentley Open Roads, specification package development is a plus
    • Experience working on interstate, interchange, and roadway reconstructions for state and county clients
    • Experience leading or working with large multi-discipline teams
    • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and overall quality control and management
    • Conscientious of project schedules and deadlines and budgets
