The Opportunity

We are seeking Senior Inspectors for our Transportation-Construction Management (T-CM) practice in Colorado.  


As a Senior Inspector, you will monitor the contractor’s construction activities to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and other contract documents.  The ideal candidate will possess strong communication/documentation skills, be a team player, is enthusiastic, motivated, honest, and dependable.


Responsibilities include but are not be limited to:

  • Assist Project Engineer’s in the construction inspection activities and schedule progress monitoring
  • Anticipate/communicate project challenges and suggest solutions to the Project Engineer
  • Manage the team of inspectors, coordinate their schedules, and oversee their work and records
  • Verify compliance with deliverable/submittal and pre-activity requirements in advance of each construction activity
  • Attend and contribute to project construction meetings
  • Monitor contractor compliance with the quality control requirements
  • Maintain open, cooperative, and collaborative communication with the owner and contactor
  • Monitor material documentation, sampling, testing frequency and results for compliance with contract requirements
  • Monitor compliance with project safety requirements and safety critical work and take appropriate action to address noncompliance
  • Perform initial, follow-up, completion, and final inspections of work in progress, including interim and final measurements
  • Identify, notify, report, and ensure correction of noncompliance with contract plans and specifications
  • Complete inspection measurements and documentation with required forms and procedures for the development of progress payments
  • Maintain accurate field notes/diaries during construction reflecting actual construction details to be used in preparation of as-constructed plans
  • Maintain accurate records (daily diaries, measurements, photos, videos, etc.) of the contractor’s daily operations including manpower, equipment, construction methods, and events that affect the work
  • Monitor and document force account work
  • Verify field compliance with project change orders
  • Perform and document punch list inspections and other project closeout activities
  • Monitor and address work zone traffic control plan compliance
  • Monitor and address erosion control plan compliance
  • Mentor/train less experience inspection team members

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • 15+ years’ experience with major road and bridge construction inspection
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Desire to help grow and develop staff and work closely with clients, engineers, and sub consultants to ensure project needs are met
  • Experience working with contractors and owners to resolve administrative and field construction challenges
  • Ability to manage construction inspection activities and inspection staff on a wide variety of roadway and bridge construction projects
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Experience working with contractors and owners to resolve administrative and field construction challenges
  • Knowledge of quality roles and responsibilities
  • Knowledge of material testing procedures and evaluation of test results
  • Experience with inspection of major traffic realignments on major highway systems
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Willing and able to work weekend, nights, and swing shifts
  • Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, twist or stoop frequently and for prolonged periods, under various outside conditions
  • Ability to reach horizontally as well as vertically for required tasks
  • Ability to use construction or inspection safety equipment including fall protection
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and shake up to 20 pounds.

Preferred Certifications / Credentials:

  • OSHA 10 Hour
  • Experience with Design-Build, CMGC, and other alternative contract delivery methods
  • Experience on large, complex transportation construction projects
  • Experience on blended consultant/owner teams
  • Experience with the Colorado Department of Transportation, or another State DOT
  • Served as a Senior Inspector for the Colorado Department of Transportation, or another State DOT
  • Completion of Colorado Department of Transportation inspector certification requirements:
    • Basic Highway Math
    • Basic Construction Surveying
    • Basic Highway Plan Reading
    • Transportation Erosion Control Supervisor Certification (TECS)
    • Asphalt Paving Materials Inspector
    • Concrete Pavement Inspector
    • Work Zone Traffic Control (TCS)
    • Excavation & Embankment Soils Inspector
