The Opportunity

RS&H is seeking a Highway Engineer to join our Transportation-Infrastructure Practice in our Tampa, FL office!

 

 

RS&H is currently seeking a Highway Engineer in our Tampa, FL office. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent technical knowledge of roadway design fundamentals. The candidate will be knowledgeable on all aspects of roadway plans production and be able to act independently regarding technical matters pertaining to roadway design.

 

Job Summary: 

 

This position performs all conventional aspects of engineering design and development, including the planning and conducting of work requiring more advanced techniques. This role independently performs a variety of assignments requiring skills in all conventional aspects of engineering designs for projects of moderate size and complexity. This position requires independent judgment in evaluation, selection, and adaptation/ modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria, and must be able to independently solve problems and make decisions, receiving technical guidance on unusual or complex issues and supervisory approval on proposed project plans.

 

Essential Functions: 

 

  • Prepares project specifications, compiles, and analyzes relevant data, and prepares complete project documents, analysis, and reports.
  • Analyzes and interprets data. Performs analyses of design, planning, and impact studies, as well as cost analyses, design requirements, site selection, and limited design layouts.
  • Designs a complete project, system, component, or process and prepares project documents, engineering analysis, and reports.
  • Performs quality control reviews and ensures achievement of key milestones. Perform as-needed field reviews and observations of ongoing construction projects to maintain and increase understanding of construction practices and design applications.
  • Formulates and solves problems with timely and innovative solutions.
  • Maintains professional registration and licensure by ensuring conformance with professional, ethical, educational, and discipline practice requirements. Remains knowledgeable of all applicable federal, state, and local codes, criteria, regulations, and ordinances that are pertinent to respective discipline.
  • May provide technical guidance and assign tasks to junior and support staff for project duration. May also manage discipline and small multidisciplinary teams and ensure adherence to company and project contractual requirements.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned and within scope of practice.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years relevant experience.
  • Florida PE licensure or the ability to obtain their Florida PE within 6 months of hire.
  • Proficient in production software and construction document production.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with clients, customers, contractors, and other key stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FDOT design experience including major reconstruction on limited access facilities, rural/urban arterials, and bicycle/pedestrian facilities
  • Municipal/Local Government design experience within the State of Florida
  • Experience in Temporary Traffic Control Design
  • FDOT Temporary Traffic Control Certified
  • Proficiency with Microstation SS4/SS10 and GEOPAK
  • Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer
  • Experience working with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) or alternate DOT experience
  • Strong knowledge of design manuals including FDOT Design Manual, FDOT Standard Plans, FDOT Standard Specifications, AASHTO A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets, and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • Working knowledge of 3D workspaces/corridor modeling
