The Opportunity

RS&H is seeking a Senior Traffic Design & ITS Group Leader in our Transportation Practice. The successful candidate can sit in any of our following office locations:

 

1. Jacksonville, FL

2. Orlando, FL

3. Tampa, FL

4. Ft. Lauderdale, FL

5. Charlotte, NC

6. Raleigh, NC

 

 

 

Job Summary: The position is responsible for making decisions and recommendations that have a significant impact on the organization and recommending operational strategies and plans with direct impact on results. This position oversees client management activities and actively participates in and leads pursuit activities, including efforts to expand brand recognition and market position. This position typically has final decision-making authority on technical matters in his/her disciplines. This position is a thought leader in area of specialization and develops and implements new services, processes, standards, or operational plans that have a significant impact on the achievement of functional results. This position makes decisions and recommendations that may have a significant impact on the organization and requires communication with senior leadership on matters of strategic importance.

 

The ideal candidate has previous leadership responsibilities and expertise in traffic engineering including,

  • Signing & Pavement Marking Design
  • Signal Timing & Design
  • Lighting Analysis & Design
  • Development of Safety Studies
  • ITS Planning & Design 

Responsibilities:

 

Group Management

  • Serve as a leader delivering traffic engineering and ITS services for our clients
  • Manage traffic engineering projects and ensure quality of products and conformance to budget
  • Prepare and/or review traffic design and construction documents for traffic signal, roadway lighting, ITS, and/or signing and pavement marking based on state and national standards
  • Lead a cohesive project team that develops plans, specifications, and estimates for projects
  • Prepare or review and approve scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments

Talent Recruitment and Development

  • Recruit qualified staff at all skill and experience levels
  • Supervising, coaching, and mentoring junior engineering staff

Client Relationships, Marketing, Pursuit Development

  • Engage in marketing activities to grow your client network and to bring in new work
  • Foster partnerships and relationships with other consulting firms to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for projects
  • Assist in marketing responsibilities, including client discovery, proposal generation, interviews, and win-to-work activities

Project Management & Technical Leadership

  • Prepare concept plans and construction documents for traffic final design projects, including, traffic signals, roadway lighting, ITS, and/or roadway signing and pavement markings
  • Administer quality management plans and perform thorough, detailed reviews of project deliverables
  • Assist upper level management and staff as a technical specialist or advisor
  • Establish and/or review priorities and work schedules and coordinates resource needs/assignments
  • Actively manage projects and perform project management activities (project scope, schedule, budget, and quality management)
  • Supervise, provide Quality Assurance or perform technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specifications, and plan preparation
  • Work to develop technical strategies and procedures. Monitor and develop appropriate professional standards and integrate the plans and metrics for quality assurance through all phases of project delivery

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant experience
  • Prior experience leading traffic design and ITS work. (Participating in and/or having decision-making on technical matters within designated discipline(s)).
  • PE License
  • Proficient in production software and design document production
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communications skills, including ability to communicate with senior leadership on matters of strategic importance. Must have the ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with clients, customers, contractors, and other key stakeholders
  • Proven ability to successfully address challenging or potentially controversial issues in a sound professional and business-like manner
  • Proven background and ability to make decisions that have significant impact to an organization, as well as recommend operational strategies and plans with direct impact on results

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PE License in Florida or ability to obtain in 6 months
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) license
  • Experience managing ITS, Traffic, Safety, and Signal Operations projects
  • Experience leading and supervising a team of Traffic/ITS specialists and engineers
  • Experience successfully leading and delivering complex transportation projects
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and/or Bentley OpenRoads Designer
  • Understanding of the application of traffic operations principles including ITE, MUTCD, AASHTO, and state DOT requirements, policies, manuals, and procedures
