The Opportunity

 

We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern for Transportation related activities in Raleigh, NC. The projects this intern will work on may also support our Charlotte, NC office. 

 

The Engineering Intern will be mentored by and will collaborate with top Engineering and Toll Systems associates on our team.  The selected candidate will work with the North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA) as part of our Toll Operations On-Call contract and will support NCTA on special projects and assignments that will require solutions-based problem solving, teamwork, and a motivation to exceed client expectations and provide cost-effective solutions.  This is an amazing opportunity to gain hands-on experience by working with a public agency while gaining a better understanding of the Electrical Engineering and Tolling Industries.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support NCTA staff in the oversight of roadside toll system installations.
  • Support NCTA staff in the testing of roadside systems and connectivity to back office systems.
  • Review system design documents for conformance to NCTA contract requirements.
  • Perform routine calculations requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles.
  • Collect and prepare data for evaluation.
  • Perform engineering with the use of computer-assisted engineering software and equipment.
  • Provide support to tolling, engineering, and project management associates.
  • Engage with public agency representatives to understand, and initiate assignments.

Qualifications:            

  • Current student pursuing a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at an ABET accredited university
  • 3.0 GPA or above
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior internship or related experience
  • AutoCAD and / or Microstation experience
  • Experience or exposure to systems engineering principles.
  • Experiences or exposure interpreting site design plans and electronic systems schematics.
  • Familiarity with testing procedures and capturing/analyzing test results.
  • Experience or exposure to communication system plans preparation and design standards
  • Specific interest in transportation and technology applications that include hardware and software integration and, communications and data components
