The Opportunity

RS&H is currently seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team. This position can work remotely, in-office, or with a hybrid approach.

 

As part of the Finance team, you'll serve an integral role in the firm responsible for the day-to-day company payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Payroll Specialist partners with internal teams to help drive process improvements and enhance the associate experience.

 

This position works with limited supervision and the ability for independent decision-making and judgment on routine issues and problems. This position communicates information that requires explanation or interpretation and may be of a sensitive nature.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Administers biweekly payroll ensuring payments are processed timely and accurately, including but not limited to, salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, direct deposits, and other deductions. While ensuring company compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws and best practices.
  • Serves as the first point-of-contact for payroll questions, providing outstanding and timely customer service and ensuring all questions or issues are resolved or raised to the appropriate team member.
  • Processes weekly timesheets, including obtaining appropriate approvals, ensuring valid hours submitted by all pay types.
  • Provides training to associates on payroll policies, regulations and processes.
  • Develops, implements and continually improves payroll best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepares and processes payroll accounting month end transactions, including journal entries, and various general ledger reconciliations. Performing regular internal audits.
  • Processes off-cycle payrolls as needed, including equity transactions and bonuses.
  • Ensures the confidentiality and security of payroll information.
  • Assists with the preparation of schedules to support workers compensation audits, 401K/Form 5500 reviews and other surveys/reports requiring employee payroll data.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited program or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Must have strong experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Must possess knowledge of federal and state pay rules and regulations and payroll fundamentals including payroll tax, reporting, balancing, US pay policies, garnishments, and payroll best practices.
  • Must be highly organized, reliable, flexible, deadline-oriented, have attention to detail, and can complete multiple tasks in a timely fashion, independently with minimal supervision.
  • The successful candidate will take ownership of payroll processes, identify opportunities for enhancement and will actively seek solutions with a high degree of self-direction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with accounting month-end close process and GL software, including recording journal entries, knowledge of how payroll transactions affect the GL, and ability to reconcile payroll accounts
  • Experience with UKG Pro highly desired
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
  • Understanding of SOX compliance
