The Opportunity

RS&H is seeking a Training Instructor responsible for hands-on and classroom instruction in transportation construction trades with a specialization in heavy equipment operation (CAT simulator and field-based). These training sessions will occur throughout the state of Florida. This role will lead the training, as well as, develop and deliver competency-based curriculum aligned with OSHA, industry, and workforce development standards.  

 

Key Responsibilities:

Lead instruction in general transportation construction practices, emphasizing heavy equipment operation and jobsite safety.

Develop CAT simulator curriculum, establish performance metrics, and track trainee hours across seven types of heavy equipment.

Integrate simulator-based training with classroom instruction to reinforce practical skills and readiness. Guide daily classroom instruction, introduce guest speakers, manage classroom engagement, and provide expert input and coaching.

Enforce safety protocols in compliance with OSHA regulations, project standards, and institutional policies.

Monitor and document trainee progress; offer one-on-one coaching and intervention strategies to support certification and employment goals.

Deliver targeted mentorship and personal development support for at-risk trainees to improve outcomes and program retention.

Coordinate with staff and employers to support job placements, hiring events, and industry partnerships that promote trainee employment.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a heavy equipment operator.
  • Proven ability to deliver technical training and mentor learners in heavy equipment operation.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, transportation construction trades, and workforce development practices.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and classroom management skills, with the ability to support diverse and at-risk populations.
