The Opportunity

RS&H is currently seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join our team! 

 

Purpose of Role

RS&H is a well-established A/E/C firm specializing in the planning, design, and development of aviation, aerospace, corporate, federal, healthcare, science, and transportation infrastructure.  Within the aviation market space, RS&H is also highly regarded for providing Aviation Planning, Environmental Planning, and Environmental Stewardship and Resilience (ESR) consulting services to airports across the United States. 

 

RS&H’s commitment to growth includes a strategic decision to increase the company’s capability in providing energy-related consulting services.  Our goal is twofold: (1) to enhance capability in providing energy-related consulting services to our existing aviation client base, define a strategic plan for growing that base to include new aviation clients, and execute that strategic plan; and (2) to expand the energy-related consulting services into other RS&H market segments currently served (i.e., aerospace, corporate, federal, healthcare, science, and transportation).

 

To achieve these goals, RS&H is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to develop energy-related consulting services within the ESR team to serve our existing and future aviation clients across the United States, while growing into other market segments currently served by RS&H. This role will play a critical role in expanding RS&H’s industry recognition as a traditional A/E design and consulting firm to also be known for providing consulting services relating to energy-intelligent, adaptive, and climate-resilient systems, and the ultimate design of energy solutions.

 

Responsibilities of Role

In this role, you will be responsible for activities ranging from strategic planning for the energy group to client development and business growth, and managing/directing technical aspects of consulting projects in the ESR team, including:

  • Develop new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products
  • Serve as a project manager on large, complex projects and/or programs
  • Lead business development activities, including the preparation of proposals, project reports, and industry presentations.
  • Participate in selected industry committees and professional societies to elevate RS&H’s visibility in the energy industry.
  • Identify opportunities for Alternative Energy Assessment, Synthetic Aviation Fuels (SAF), Energy Master Plans, Net Zero Roadmaps, and/or Resilience Studies for RS&H market sectors
  • Embed energy-literacy and energy KPIs into all RS&H design delivery workflows
  • Identify and enlist a multi-disciplinary RS&H team and identify (strategic internal and external) allies/partners for an expanded line of innovative energy service offerings related to planning, analysis, implementation, Cx, and support services
  • Identifying skills gap and a plan for key talent development; present business investment case to RS&H leadership for staged staff-expansion

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Have a degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program and 15 years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Be a professional engineer in good standing (PE, CEM or equivalent).
  • Directly applicable experience with Energy Systems, Energy Management, Energy Economics, Sustainable Design, Renewables or similar technologies
  • >10 years consulting and/or engineering of the built environment with progressive experience in the following:
    • Demand side: Energy programs, modeling, codes, building performance optimization, hygiene, commissioning
    • Supply-side: Energy access, storage systems, renewable generation, combined heat and power, generators, power-purchase agreements
    • Utility-scale: Energy programs, partnerships, financing mechanisms
    • Public-private partnerships, and alternative procurement methods
    • Federal funding programs (i.e. FAA, ZEV, VALE)
  • Proven track record in launching and scaling energy services offerings or business units in an A/E, ESCO, or consulting context
  • Established relationships and respected reputation in the aviation industry and/or federal facilities
  • Success in securing grants/RFPs, task orders for energy-related services
  • Experience with total cost of ownership/lifecycle cost estimating/ advanced energy and financial modeling
  • Familiarity in the development and/or implementation of digital services such as:
    • Energy tracking dashboards
    • Energy management/asset management systems
    • SCADA/BAS systems
    • Microgrid controls systems
    • Distributed Energy Resources (DER) integration

Typical salary range for this position in Denver is $160,000- $209,000, and commensurate with experience relative to the position.

This individual will be part of the Environmental Stewardship and Resiliency (ESR) market segment providing environmental stewardship, sustainability, and resilience planning, permitting, and consulting services to Aviation, Transportation, Municipal and private clients nationally. As a member of RS&H's ESR team, you will identify and integrate solutions into our client's infrastructure and operations that make them more sustainable and resilient. In addition, this mid-level consultant position will help manage clients and projects, contribute to business development, and mentor junior consultants.
