We are seeking an experienced and motivated Transportation Deputy Project Manager to support the successful delivery of transportation and infrastructure projects. 

We would ideally like this person to sit out of one of our strategic Carolinas offices, including: Charlotte, Raleigh, Asheville, Charleston, or Columbia. 

The Deputy Project Manager serves as a key partner to the Project Manager, assisting with project planning, execution, coordination, budgeting, compliance, and stakeholder engagement. This role offers an opportunity to work on complex transportation projects including highways, roadways, bridges, and other public infrastructure initiatives. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with strong technical knowledge, project management skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

• Assist in managing project scope, schedules, budgets, and milestones throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support project execution from planning and design through construction and closeout.
• Coordinate project activities to ensure timely and successful delivery.

Team Leadership & Coordination

• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including roadway, bridge, traffic, environmental, and construction professionals.
• Facilitate communication among internal teams, consultants, contractors, and clients.
• Support resource planning and workload management.
• Develop internal and external meeting agendas, presentations, and summaries.
• Track deliverables and action items.

Client & Stakeholder Management

• Build and maintain relationships with transportation agencies, municipalities, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders.
• Participate in client meetings, project reviews, and public-facing discussions as needed.
• Assist with responding to client requests and project inquiries.

Project Controls & Financial Management

• Monitor project budgets, forecasts, schedules, and key performance indicators.
• Review project reports, invoices, and cost tracking information.
• Support contract administration.

Risk Management & Quality Assurance

• Identify project risks and assist in developing mitigation strategies.
• Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards and client expectations.
• Support compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations and permitting requirements.

Operational Support

• Assist the Project Manager with day-to-day project operations.
• Serve as acting project lead when delegated by the Project Manager.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in transportation, infrastructure, or civil engineering projects.
• Experience supporting project schedules, budgets, cost estimates, and technical deliverables.
• Strong understanding of transportation design and construction practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to coordinate multiple priorities and stakeholders simultaneously.
• Strong organizational and analytical abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure.
• Experience working with state Departments of Transportation (DOTs), municipalities, or public agencies.
• Familiarity with transportation design software, project management tools, and BIM workflows.
• Experience managing consultant teams and subconsultants.
