The Opportunity

The Technical Discipline Leader serves as the technical leader for a specific discipline, providing strategic direction, technical oversight, and people leadership to support high-quality project delivery, operational excellence, and business performance. This role leads and develops discipline teams, fostering employee engagement, career growth, technical development, and succession planning while building a strong, high-performing talent pipeline 

The Technical Discipline Leader provides technical leadership, manages discipline resources, and drives quality and client satisfaction across the portfolio. In partnership with business leaders, this role supports business development, strengthens client relationships, and contributes to sustainable growth, operational excellence, and overall business success.

 

Technical Leadership, Quality Oversight and Project Delivery 

  • Serve as the advanced technical experienced and subject matter authority for the discipline.  
  • Oversee complex technical work and approve discipline-specific approaches, methods, and standards.  
  • Provides technical leadership ensuring quality, compliance, and successful delivery that strengthens client relationships and supports portfolio growth. 
  • Ensure proposals meet RS&H standards and applicable technical requirements.  
  • Manage a team to support project delivery, including schedule planning, cost estimating, and performance monitoring.  
  • Oversee project reviews and ensure compliance with standard of care and risk mitigation requirements.  
  • Coordinate work sharing and balance workloads within their team and across the enterprise.  
  • Drive operational excellence through effective planning, execution, and resource management.  
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to support successful project delivery.  

 

People Leadership 

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team by promoting technical excellence, innovation, and continuous growth.  
  • Foster a collaborative environment that encourages teamwork, accountability, and engagement.  
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback to support employee growth and development, while promoting accountability for the timely completion of required training, policies, procedures, and compliance acknowledgement.  
  • Provide input on hiring, development, and termination decisions.  
  • Support talent development and workforce engagement to build a strong and capable team. 

 

Proposal Development 

  • Oversee the successful delivery of multiple projects that strengthen client relationships and drive portfolio growth 
  • Leads client relationship development activities, acts as firm ambassador in helping to win new work with business development teams to drive top line sales growth  
  • Represent the firm as a technical leader within industry organizations and at events  
  • Develop technical sections of proposals and presentations and ensure technical accuracy of proposal submissions.

 

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive technical experience within the applicable discipline.  

  • 7+ years of leadership and supervisory experience managing technical teams and project delivery

  • Typically requires professional licensure/registration in discipline
  • Must possess extensive knowledge of the applicable discipline, market sector, regulations, codes, standards, and cost considerations. Demonstrated ability to develop client relationships, promote services, and lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams. 

  • This position requires strong leadership, analytical, prioritization, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively build and maintain relationships with clients, colleagues, team members and stakeholders.
